Material Selection and Color Scheme:
Material selection is up to you as long as:
You use material that is 100% cotton
Your square measures 13" X 13" unfinished including seam allowances, to finish out at 12" X 12"
Your image fits within that 12" square
Measure a 12" square
in the middle of your block so you'll know for certain that your block is the
right size and your image fits into the center correctly
If you are worried about cutting your block crooked, or would rather not have to be so precise about the cutting, just send them to me when you're done and I'll cut them. The main thing is that they're around 13 inches (Extremely close, please) to start as I am just figuring on what happened to me in 2004 and trying to avoid it. My material raveled after I had cut it and my square was under the required number of inches when I was ready to send it. Because of that I had to re-cut it smaller and add a border, which was a pain in the butt. I would rather everyone cut the blocks larger and my mom and Elen or I will cut them as she's getting ready to set them together so that we don't have to worry about them raveling out.
I'm sure the choices will be varied, and we'll try to set it all together with something that is neutral to bring it all together nicely like the previous quilts.
Color scheme:
As for a color scheme, there really isn't one. The only thing Elen mentioned was that we may not want to use the "novelty" fabrics like Mary Engelbreit-type prints where the colors are all primary or very vivid and bright, and there are so many of them together it's very distracting.
